SHAH ALAM, Dec 14 — The issue of illegal hawkers and traders in the Taman Medan state constituency has been identified as one of the key priorities to be addressed next year.
Its coordinator Halimey Abu Bakar said the matter has been discussed with city councillors to ensure the welfare and livelihoods of traders in the area continue to be safeguarded.
“There are several plans that have been drawn up for next year and discussed with councillors, including resolving the issue of illegal hawkers and traders, particularly in the PJS4 area.
“In addition, we are also planning to install a roof at PJS4 Market to provide comfort and ensure the safety of both traders and visitors,” he said.
Halimey was speaking to the media after the Menabur Bakti, Menuai Kasih dinner with the state seat's coordinating volunteers at the Mardhiyyah Hotel and Suites in Section 14 yesterday.
Commenting on the allocation for upgrading the market, he said it falls under the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).
“This market is unique as it operates both a morning and a night market, but the area is relatively spacious, with over 100 traders operating at any one time.
“InsyaAllah (God willing), an application has been submitted to the local authority, and the roof installation works are expected to begin around May next year,” Halimey said.
