SHAH ALAM, May 27 — The construction of the Petaling Jaya Hospital will bring significant benefits to the public, particularly in terms of treatment facilities, said Taman Medan state constituency coordinator Halimey Abu Bakar.
He said that the new medical centre will help to reduce congestion at existing hospitals and improve the standard of public healthcare services in both Petaling Jaya and its surrounding areas.
"The proposed construction of this hospital is extremely positive and important news for residents, who are in genuine need of more comprehensive, modern, and high-quality public healthcare access.
"I welcome the announcement by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad on the proposed site for the hospital's construction, which is expected to be located within the Taman Medan constituency area," Halimey said in a statement today.
The former Seri Setia state assemblyman also welcomed Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari's readiness to play a facilitating role and assist in expediting land-related matters, to ensure the project can be realised smoothly.
"Close cooperation between the Federal and state governments is crucial in ensuring that the development of healthcare facilities for the people can be implemented more quickly and effectively.
"I hope that all matters related to the site and the hospital development process will proceed smoothly for the well-being of the people as a whole," he said.
Earlier, Dr Dzulkefly said that a six-hectare site in Taman Medan, currently home to a modern sports complex, could help address the urgent need for a new public hospital to serve the densely populated Petaling Jaya-Subang-Puchong corridor.
The Health Ministry (MOH) aims to construct a 500-bed hospital on the site with five specialist disciplines, benchmarked against the Ampang Hospital.
In response, Amirudin said the future medical facility perfectly aligns with the needs of local residents in terms of accessibility, capacity, land cost, and proximity to surrounding communities.
As such, the State Economic Planning Unit, the Petaling Jaya City Council, and the Petaling District Office will join the MOH in a site visit scheduled for this week.
