SHAH ALAM, Dec 9 — The Selangor Women’s Assembly (Siwanis) has received a RM100,000 grant from the Women, Family, and Community Development Ministry (KPWKM) to implement two leadership development programmes under Wanita Berdaya Selangor (WBS).
State executive councillor for women’s empowerment and social welfare Anfaal Saari said the allocation under the 2025 Apprenticeship Programme enables WBS to implement programmes in a more structured, high-impact manner.
“This KPWKM grant is highly significant as it expands opportunities for women’s leadership development in Selangor. Although the implementation period is relatively short, ending in March 2026, we remain committed to ensuring that every module is developed to a high standard and delivers direct benefits to participants.
“The funding covers the implementation of Siwanis 2025-2026 as well as the Women’s Leadership Academy and the Councillor Module, each valued at RM50,000,” she said during a press conference after launching Siwanis 2025-2026 at Dewan Jubli Perak today.
Anfaal also emphasised Siwanis' strategic role in strengthening women’s leadership capacity and increasing their involvement in Selangor's policy and decision-making processes.
“We want to see more women not only active in the public sphere but also in decision-making positions. Siwanis builds confidence, competence, and policy understanding to nurture women leaders who are ready to shoulder such responsibilities,” she said.
56 participants joined this fourth cohort, comprising Siwanis alumni and women political activists, to strengthen the pool of future policymakers ahead of the upcoming elections.
The programme focuses on developing gender-responsive policies, the policymaking process, the role of State Legislative Assembly members, and leadership enhancement through structured training modules.
The initiative is expected to increase women’s involvement in policymaking and contribute to building a more inclusive, progressive, and competitive Selangor by 2030, in line with Goal Four of the Selangor Women’s Policy and Action Plan 2024-2026, which aims to accelerate women’s participation, representation, and decision-making in public and political life.
