SUBANG JAYA, Dec 8 — The post-flood cleanup in Hulu Langat and Kuala Selangor carried out by KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) is expected to be completed this week.

Its managing director Dato' Ramli Mohd Tahir said there was still a large amount of bulk waste that residents had yet to remove, which made the cleanup work more difficult.

“Post-flood cleanup operations are underway in Taman Dusun Nanding in Kajang, while works in Kuala Selangor have not been completed because some houses are still inundated due to stagnant floodwaters.

“In Shah Alam, only a small portion remains, and Subang Jaya has been completed. Among the bulk waste that residents need to remove are carpets, mattresses, electrical appliances, washing machines, pillows, and cupboards.

“We hope residents can bring out their items so all damaged goods can be collected. If they do not take them out, it will appear as though KDEBWM has not completed its work,” he told Media Selangor.

Ramli added that they have given residents until this week to remove damaged items from their homes.

“We do have a special team for post-flood waste collection, and residents can place damaged items in front of their homes to facilitate the cleanup.

“In addition, we are also ensuring that drains and ditches under KDEBWM’s responsibility are cleaned so they are not clogged and water can flow smoothly,” he said.

For the record, two temporary relief centres (PPS) are still operating in Kuala Selangor and Gombak to house flood and landslide victims.

Selangor Social Welfare Department director Azmir Kassim said SRA Pasangan in Kuala Selangor currently shelters 38 flood victims, while 51 landslide victims are housed at the Dewan Komuniti Orang Asli in Gombak.

Two weeks ago, several days of heavy rain caused flooding in several districts in the state, including Sepang, Kuala Langat, Sabak Bernam, and Kuala Selangor.

As a result, nearly 3,000 victims were forced to seek shelter at the PPS, with Kuala Selangor recording the highest number of flood victims.
