KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 8 — The development of a fully automated distribution centre by Sime Darby Property Berhad and Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad is expected to enhance supply chain efficiency and expedite the distribution of essential goods to the people.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the modern facility being developed in the City of Elmina also strengthens Selangor’s position as the country’s key logistics hub.
The project serves as a new catalyst for the state’s logistics ecosystem, further elevating Selangor as a central logistics hub in the Asean region and a preferred destination for high-value investments.
“This facility will aggressively adopt automation and digitalisation, including robotics, automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), and real-time data analytics, aligning with the state’s aspirations and proving that local companies are capable of leveraging technology and achieving global-level productivity.
“This Mydin Distribution Centre is more than just a large building; it is a crucial component in ensuring the security of the nation’s supply chain, which is among the state government’s priorities.
“The automated distribution centre will also help reduce food waste, lower logistics costs, and ensure essential goods reach the people more quickly and at competitive prices, thereby supporting our efforts to manage the cost of living,” he said when officiating the centre's groundbreaking ceremony today.

Sime Darby Property's group managing director cum chief executive officer Datuk Seri Azmir Merican said the centre is being developed on 19 acres of freehold land with a RM450 million development value.
“We are proud to collaborate with Mydin to develop a facility that reflects the future of Malaysian commerce, combining business heritage with high technology.
“This distribution centre will be the driving force behind Mydin's logistics transformation, enhancing inventory accuracy, expediting deliveries, and strengthening the operational resilience of its retail network,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mydin managing director Datuk Wira Ameer Ali Mydin said the development, expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2027, will bring long-term benefits to all parties, including the surrounding communities.
“Apart from enhancing Mydin's operations, this project will have a positive impact on the business ecosystem in Elmina and the Klang Valley. It will also generate demand for highly skilled jobs in automation, logistics technology, and data-driven warehouse operations,” he said.
