SHAH ALAM, Dec 7 — KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM), a subsidiary of Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad, continues to advance domestic waste management by converting rubbish into new energy, thereby reducing reliance on increasingly limited landfill sites in Selangor.
Its managing director Dato’ Ramli Mohd Tahir said the method is more practical than the current practice of disposing of waste through landfilling.
“The method of converting domestic waste into a new source of energy has been adopted in developed countries such as Japan, Turkiye, and the United States.
“Land costs in Selangor are very high, and we need to adopt the latest technology in waste management to avoid future increases in waste management costs if we continue relying on conventional methods,” he said.
Ramli was speaking as a panellist during the 'Sesi Hati dan Minda Pemimpin programme' at the Piano Stage during the Selangor International Book Fair (SIBF) 2025 yesterday.
The one-hour sharing session was moderated by the Perbadanan Kota Buku director Khair Ngadiron, together with its chief executive officer Adibah Omar.
During the event, the launch of the book Ramlee dan Robot Lori Merah, published by KDEBWM in collaboration with the Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS), also took place, with PPAS director Datin Paduka Mastura Muhamad in attendance.
The 28-page book, written by Anizon Husin with illustrations by Azrul Amri, is sold at RM15 per copy.
This bilingual (Malay-English) book is presented as a light, cheerful and easy-to-understand children’s story. It tells the tale of Ramlee, a young boy who wishes to see his surroundings clean and well-organised.
Through his adventure with the Red Lorry Robot, Ramlee learns about different types of waste, proper waste management methods, and the responsibility to care for the environment.
