SHAH ALAM, Dec 1 — The Selangor Women’s Welfare and Charity Organisation's (Pekawanis) president Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad has commended the efforts of Casa Kids Book, a publishing imprint under Big M Resources, for successfully producing 21 children’s picture books in just six months.
She said the success in publishing the book series, which focuses on environmental sustainability and social awareness, can hopefully inspire more writers.
“This is no small effort, but a major achievement that deserves to be celebrated. I was informed that this project attracted 300 individuals from diverse backgrounds, including disabled persons.
“We know that producing children’s picture books is no easy task. Besides writing skills, authors must possess creativity in illustration and the ability to convey messages through visuals.
“That is why I am truly impressed with the dedication, commitment, and perseverance of everyone involved, especially the project director (Mimi Salleh), who led this project exceptionally well,” Masdiana said in her speech.
She was speaking at the officiation of the Casa Kids Book Children’s Picture Book Series during the Selangor International Book Fair (SIBF) 2025 at the Setia City Convention Centre today.
Masdiana also expressed her appreciation to Yayasan Bursa Malaysia for sponsoring the project, describing the support as a key element in strengthening the local publishing ecosystem, particularly children’s reading materials.
“What is even more touching is the noble purpose behind this project through the social initiatives that will be carried out throughout 2026, including to purchase hearing aids.
“Such initiatives not only foster a reading culture among children but also create a significant social impact on the community,” she said.
Meanwhile, various exciting activities are lined up at SIBF 2025, which runs until this Sunday (December 7), including discounts of up to 25 per cent at the Darul Ehsan Book Initiative (IBDE) booth.
Its corporate sales executive Muhammad Nazmi Tusimun said they are confident the RM50,000 sales target can be achieved, as the fair has already recorded RM25,000 in the first three days.
“We welcome all book lovers to visit the IBDE booth and enjoy discounts of up to 25 per cent, and do not forget to check out our eight new titles.
“Visitors are also encouraged to register as IBDE book members to collect points with no expiry date and enjoy the opportunity to purchase books at affordable prices,” he said.
The annual book fair, organised by the Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS), runs from 9am to 10pm daily and also features author talks, creative workshops, and family activities, making it a must-visit destination for book lovers and knowledge enthusiasts.
