SHAH ALAM, Dec 5 — The Selangor International Book Fair (SIBF) has now secured its place on the calendar of major and influential book fairs, marked by strong participation from international publishers.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said that it has received more than 200,000 visitors so far, with the number expected to rise ahead of its closing day tomorrow.
He said various improvements, including an extended event duration and more involvement from foreign publishers, have driven this year’s remarkable turnout.
“SIBF is now operating at a much higher level with the involvement of publishers and exhibitors from India, China, Ghana, Turkiye, and Azerbaijan, the result of relationships developed through several previous working visits.
“Most exhibitors are very satisfied. The presence of industry players from abroad shows that this book fair continues to grow and is increasingly recognised at the international level,” Amirudin told Media Selangor during a visit to SIBF today.
He added that long-term cooperation among the state government, the Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS), and international partners has opened opportunities for a larger, more impactful event.
“This year’s event is better than before as it spans two weeks, giving visitors of all ages the chance to participate in activities and explore a wide range of reading materials.
“The variety of books is also very extensive, covering children’s books, reference works, school materials, history, leadership, politics and geopolitics, including local and foreign publications,” Amirudin said.
Commenting on the possibility of an even larger event next year, the Menteri Besar said he is confident SIBF will continue to be strengthened.
“InsyaAllah (God willing), we will keep improving its organisation. SIBF remains one of the key events in the national book fair calendar and certainly possesses its own strengths,” he said.
SIBF 2025 is being held at the Setia City Convention Centre, from November 28 to December 7, and was launched by the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.
Organised by PPAS, the event features 400 booths involving 200 local and international exhibitors, including those from China, India, Turkiye, Singapore, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This year’s special guests are Guangdong, China, and Tamil Nadu, India.
