SHAH ALAM, Dec 1 — Media Selangor took home two awards during the Royal Klang City Council (MBDK) Media Appreciation Night on Friday (November 28) at the Royal Selangor Yacht Club.
Journalist Siti Rohaizah Zainal won the Best TV News Report Award for her special feature on the centralised hostel initiative aimed at addressing unregulated housing for workers in Klang.
Meanwhile, Aliff Haiqal Mohamed was honoured with the Royal Klang City News Award for his report ‘Setahun Klang Bandaraya Diraja’, which was broadcast on the ‘Bicara Semasa’ programme.
The awards were presented by Klang Mayor Dato’ Abdul Hamid Hussain during the ceremony, which gathered more than 70 media professionals from various organisations.
He said the media plays a crucial role within the administrative ecosystem and serves as a strategic partner connecting MBDK with over one million Klang residents.
“Every news report, article, and visual contributes to the transparency of MBDK’s governance. Coverage on issues like illegal dumping, stray animals, or traffic congestion acts as a form of check and balance.
“As an example, reports highlighting the Sungai Klang cleanup, which collected 1,234kg of waste, or the vibrant Deepavali Gateway along Jalan Tengku Kelana, help foster civic awareness and unity within Klang’s diverse community,” Hamid said in his speech.
He added that as Klang enters its second year as a Royal City, the council continues to face various challenges.
“MBDK is working hard to ensure that this new city status translates into a better quality of life for all residents. Issues such as waste management, sustainable development, and efficient service delivery demand continuous commitment,” Hamid said.
