Klang has spent RM12m on its SUKMA venues, says mayor

KLANG, June 29 — The Royal City of Klang Municipal Council (MBDK) has spent about RM12 million to upgrade seven venues that will host events during the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) within its administrative area.

Klang mayor Dato' Abdul Hamid Hussain said the Pandamaran Hockey Stadium upgrade accounted for the largest share of the allocation, costing about RM7 million to replace the artificial turf and upgrade the lighting.

More than RM1.5 million was also allocated to replace the turf at Sultan Suleiman Field, which will host the rugby competition, including RM600,000 to repair and relocate toilet facilities.

"For SUKMA, MBDK is involved in hosting seven events, including hockey, rugby, lawn bowls, table tennis and basketball. Preparations are now almost 90 per cent complete.

"We have also sought the cooperation of private landowners to provide parking facilities, as parking at the existing venues is insufficient. We hope the games will run smoothly," he said.

He was speaking to reporters after officiating the Jom 'Hike' Sihat Fest 2026 programme organised by MBDK at Taman Rakyat, Seri Andalas, yesterday.

The 22nd edition of SUKMA will be held from August 15 to 24, featuring 469 events across 37 sports in nine districts involving 52 venues.

The Para SUKMA will take place from September 5 to 10, featuring 369 events across 10 sports: swimming, athletics, badminton, table tennis, tenpin bowling, lawn bowls, archery, chess, boccia and powerlifting.
