KUALA LANGAT, Nov 29 — Media Selangor Sdn Bhd’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, Media Selangor Masuk Kampung, proves that the media doesn’t just deliver information, but plays an active role in the state’s social development, said Tanjung Sepat assemblyman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah.

He said the programme, held in Kampung Orang Asli Tanjung Sepat here by Media Selangor and its strategic partners, is praiseworthy and should be expanded.

“I see that this is a very good programme, meeting Orang Asli, specifically. They should be cared for, and several matters we must give focus to are health, cleanliness and development.

“It would be good for expansion. For me, focusing on this district would be better, and we can look at villages that need help. In Selangor, there are Orang Asli, Malays, Chinese, Indians. We don’t just focus on one race.

“Maybe Media Selangor could expand this programme to rural or suburban races and areas that need to be prioritised,” he said after launching Media Selangor Masuk Kampung in Tanjung Sepat today.

Meanwhile, Kampung Orang Asli Tanjung Sepat’s Village Development and Security Committee chairman Abeng said the CSR programme, which featured various activities including free health screenings, eased residents’ access to basic checkups.

“Some are afraid to go to the hospital or clinics for health checkups, so when they come here, it is easier. Other than that, we were excited to receive benefits like food baskets, schoolbag aid, and much more,” he said.

For homemaker Eton Amah, the activities during the programme gave her and other villagers the opportunity to learn new skills and receive health checkups and aid.

“We like it. For instance, I got a blood checkup, if not I would’ve had to visit the health clinic, so it was easier. We also received food baskets,” she said.

Student Shylien Jesyin, 16, said the programme allowed her to try baking biscuits for the first time, letting her gain experience and new skills in a fun way.

“Maybe after this, I could make biscuits at home. I’ve never tried to make biscuits on my own before,” she said.
