SHAH ALAM, 21 Nov — Two industrial premises operating without approval were raided by the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) during an integrated enforcement operation in Jeram, Kuala Selangor yesterday.

The operation, which ran from 9am to 3pm, involved 42 MPKS personnel along with several agencies, including the National Water Services Commission (SPAN), the Department of Environment (JAS), the Kuala Selangor District and Land Office, Air Selangor and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).

The raided premises comprised a used-tyre processing factory and a brick manufacturing facility.

According to MPKS, inspections revealed that both factories had committed various legal violations, including failing to comply with previous notices and constructing buildings without written approval from the council.

“Enforcement action was taken under Section 109 of the Local Government Act 1976 and Section 70(1) of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974.

“The MPKS Health and Environment Department also took action under the MDKS 2007 Public Health By-laws related to hygiene issues, sewage discharge, and dust and noise disturbances,” the statement said.

During the same operation, notices were issued under Section 82(5) of Act 133 regarding activities that caused environmental nuisance.

JAS issued a directive under Sections 31 and 37 of the Environmental Quality Act 1974 for further investigation into air emissions.

Air Selangor also cut the water supply of the premises and seized their water meters following approval from SPAN, while TNB Kuala Selangor conducted checks on meter ownership for the issuance of electricity supply disconnection notices in accordance with procedure.

“Through this operation, MPKS successfully executed two premises closures and issued four compounds involving various local government regulations.

“In total, 17 industrial machines were seized, including forklifts, compactors, compressors, electric hoists, metal-cutting machines, welding equipment and other machinery used in factory operations,” MPKS said.

The council emphasised that such integrated enforcement efforts will continue to be intensified to ensure that industrial activities in Kuala Selangor comply with the law and do not compromise public well-being.

“This approach is essential to ensure that industrial development progresses in a controlled, safe manner and in full adherence to regulations,” the statement added.
