SHAH ALAM, Sept 25 — A chicken farm in Kuala Selangor was ordered to close in June, while its operator was issued an offense notice and compound for environmental violations.
Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) President Mohamad Hanafe Basri said the closure followed the operator’s failure to comply with regulations, including operating without a license.
Eleven water pump units were also seized, while fines were issued for discharging sewage directly into the river and the farm’s electricity and water supplies were disconnected.
He said that as of September, 21 notices and 13 fines have also been issued to 41 farms across the municipality.
“Action has been taken against 27 farms through integrated operations, in addition to the 21 notices issued to operators requiring them to implement corrective measures regarding the nuisance caused,” Hanafe told Media Selangor.
He added that MPKS conducts regular monitoring of chicken farms to ensure operations are properly managed, hygienic and do not cause nuisance to nearby residents.
“The inspections cover farm and coop cleanliness, manure and livestock waste management, fly and odour control, chicken carcass disposal, drainage systems, and wastewater discharge.
“It is the operators’ responsibility to continuously ensure the premises are clean, waste is properly managed, flies and odours are controlled, and all directives from the authorities are complied with,” Hanafe said.
MPKS will also strengthen prevention, monitoring, enforcement and remediation efforts to safeguard the health, cleanliness, and quality of life of residents, as well as environmental sustainability.
