SHAH ALAM, Nov 12 — The progress of artificial intelligence (AI) technology often brings up debate about its role in future jobs and human creativity, but Media Selangor senior editor Mohamad Khairulnizam Bakeri says people need not worry.
He stressed that AI isn’t a threat, but an opportunity to empower human potential in today’s digital era.
“AI isn’t a threat and people needn’t be afraid; they must instead learn to live with AI,” he said when met at the “Social Media Workshop: Maximising Social Media — Trends, Safety and Ethical Use” event at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in Serdang yesterday.
Khairulnizam said the perception that AI would replace humans is inaccurate and overinflated.
“Many view AI as if it could replace humans, but this won’t happen, at least not in our lifetime,” he added, explaining that AI’s progress unveils new frontiers in improving efficiency and productivity.
“With technological progress, AI can add potential as humans,” he said while emphasising that every kind of technology has its risks if misused.
In the context of the creative industry, he said: “If AI is used to replace creative processes done manually by humans, it would influence creative thinking capabilities”, but added that the technology has a significant role in improving daily tasks and provides space for humans to focus on tasks that require more creativity.
Khairulnizam also said that even if AI continues to grow, it has its limitations.
“No matter how advanced AI technology is in helping human lives, it cannot replace the human touch in creative works or daily living.”
Meanwhile, Media Selangor corporate communications head Mahadi Mohd Mustafa said technology-based events like the workshop could help strengthen ties with higher learning institutions and are suitable for youth.
He said the event drew nearly 100 students — an impressive achievement for Media Selangor.
“Ai is really good, not to replace humans, but to help us with new ideas. Don’t be afraid to explore the potential of this technology,” Mahadi said.
