SHAH ALAM, Nov 12 — The rapidly growing creative industry has the potential to become a key driver of Malaysia’s future economic growth if the government focuses on nurturing young talent and advancing digital innovation nationwide, said Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the creative sector goes beyond production and services, encompassing areas like e-sports, digital arts, and innovative technologies, all of which can create new employment opportunities.
“We are very proud that Malaysia has cultivated local talent across various creative fields, including the BoBoiBoy project, which now represents the nation on the international stage.
“This demonstrates that creativity is not merely about entertainment, but a strategic element in shaping the economy of the future,” he said during the Malaysian Investment Development Authority's (Mida) Strategic Investment Seminar yesterday.
Amirudin added that recognising the creative industry enables the nation to build an inclusive ecosystem, connecting the manufacturing, financial, and service sectors to strengthen the digital economy.
“By understanding the strengths and values of each sector, and combining the efforts of all states and governing bodies, we can ensure sustained growth and position the creative industry as a pillar of the national economy,” he said.
This approach also provides opportunities for the younger generation to develop their talents, foster creativity, and contribute to sustainable economic development in the years ahead.
During the seminar, Amirudin highlighted that Selangor’s position as Malaysia’s economic powerhouse and gateway to Asia has encouraged the state government to explore the creative industry more extensively.
Previously, at the launch of the Selangor Creative Economy Expo 2025 (SCEE25) on September 23, the Menteri Besar expressed confidence that the initiative would create more job opportunities and help uncover young Selangor talents to be showcased at higher levels.
SCEE25 serves as a platform to establish Selangor as a regional creative hub, aiming to achieve RM20 billion in gross domestic product (GDP) contribution by 2035.
In addition, the Selangor Creative Economy Action Plan 2025-2035, focusing on multimedia, heritage, and cultural arts, is expected to be launched during the upcoming Selangor State Legislative Assembly session later this month.
