PETALING JAYA, Nov 10 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has launched the Low-Carbon Building Action Plan 2025-2035, per its goal of achieving Low-Carbon City status within the next five years.

Mayor Datuk Mohamad Zahri Samingon said the plan represents a key step in Petaling Jaya’s transformation into a green city, particularly through improving building energy efficiency via compliance with standards and systematic approaches.

Implementing this initiative would help reduce carbon emissions while strengthening the city’s resilience against the increasingly complex challenges of climate change.

“The council remains committed to driving green transformation through various holistic and high-impact initiatives to ensure Petaling Jaya emerges as a sustainable, progressive, and competitive leader among low-carbon cities.

“This success can only be achieved through close collaboration between government agencies, strategic partners, and strong support from the local community; the heartbeat of the city’s development,” he said in a statement.

Earlier today, the plan was announced during the launch of the Petaling Jaya Low-Carbon Building Action Plan and a seminar on the MS:1525 Energy Efficiency Guidelines and the use of the Building Energy Data Online Monitoring System.

Zahri added that MBPJ also supports the Federal government’s aspiration to reduce national carbon intensity by 45 per cent by 2030.

“At the local level, MBPJ is targeting a 33 per cent carbon reduction in Petaling Jaya within the same timeframe, in line with the PJ Climate Action Plan, forming the foundation for sustainable urban development,” he said.

Last week, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said that Selangor policies and initiatives are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to ensure economic progress goes hand in hand with environmental sustainability and the people's well-being.
