SHAH ALAM, Nov 9 — The Selangor State Legislative Assembly is not merely a law-making institution but also stands as a symbol of the state’s political maturity.
Its Speaker Lau Weng San said the Assembly also serves as a platform for the exchange of ideas and for the people’s voices to be conveyed through their state assemblymen.
“With the commitment of every state assemblyman in fulfilling their respective responsibilities, the Assembly has become a symbol of political maturity and excellence in state governance.
“The effectiveness of this system demonstrates that Selangor’s progress today is founded on strong democratic principles, guided by the rule of law, and wisely led by His Royal Highness the Sultan as the guardian of the state’s sovereignty,” he said.
Lau was delivering his address during the Assembly's 66th anniversary dinner at the Concorde Hotel last night.

Also gracing the occasion were Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj and the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Hajah Norashikin.
He also expressed his appreciation and congratulations to all former state assemblymen and members of the state administration who have contributed significantly to upholding democratic principles and serving the people.
Lau added that the Assembly's formation in 1959 laid a solid foundation for the practice of Parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy, which continues to this day.
“The Assembly has faced numerous challenges, yet it has remained steadfast, adaptable, and relevant with the passage of time. For instance, amendments to the Standing Orders have been implemented to harmonise existing rules in line with current needs,” he said.
