HULU LANGAT, Nov 6 — Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is no longer seen as a second-class education stream but has become a key pillar in producing a highly skilled workforce aligned with the needs of modern industry.

Yayasan Raja Muda Selangor's (YRMS) chief executive officer Muhammad Syazwan Mohd Daut said that TVET is now recognised as an educational pathway with immense potential to shape a sustainable future and strengthen the national economy by developing skilled human capital.

“Through the YRMS TVET Open Day 2025, we received participation from 217 secondary school students who joined self-exploration workshops designed to help them determine their post-school direction.

“The innovations showcased in the TVET competition also demonstrate that students possess exceptional talent and technical skills, which in turn opens parents’ eyes to the true potential of this educational stream,” he told the press during the event at the Dusun Tua National Youth Advanced Skills Institute (IKTBN) today.

Meanwhile, Dusun Tua IKTBN director Samsuri Arif said such programmes serve as an important platform to empower TVET students so they can keep pace with labour market demands and technological advancements.

“Beyond creating job opportunities, the TVET approach also helps instil self-confidence among students to continue progressing in skilled fields,” he said.

The event was graced by the the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, who toured the skills exhibition and interacted with students and participants.

The YRMS TVET Open Day also featured a range of interactive activities, career sharing sessions, and skills exhibitions by training institutions and strategic industry partners.
