CYBERJAYA, Nov 6 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has commended Selangor for its proactive and effective efforts in accelerating the development of the state’s semiconductor ecosystem.
The progress visible in initiatives like the Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Parks 1 and 2 — a joint effort between Putrajaya and Selangor — reflected the state’s strong execution and commitment to national industrial growth.
“The situation in Selangor is impressive. The pace of implementation, the success in attracting investors, researchers and participants all show that we are moving in a convincing direction.
“That is why we now have this second IC design park, and I extend my congratulations to Selangor, Miti (International, Trade, and Industry Ministry) and all partners involved,” he said in his speech during the launch of the IC Design Park 2 today.
Anwar highlighted the need for Malaysia to build a robust semiconductor ecosystem with clear policies, strong infrastructure, research excellence, and a skilled talent pool, so that the nation can compete globally.
“This is how we ensure Malaysia is not only a consumer but a creator of technology,” he said.
The Prime Minister added that cooperation among agencies like Cyberview Sdn Bhd, Khazanah Nasional Bhd, and various ministries is vital to providing young Malaysians with opportunities to develop expertise in chip design, artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced technologies.
He assured foreign investors of Malaysia’s readiness to support high-tech industries.
“For the benefit of investors, let me say this… we can prepare adequate infrastructure as required. The young people here have great capability, and their potential in this field is tremendous,” Anwar said.
As such, the government will continue to enhance collaboration between universities and industry players to ensure that education remains relevant to industrial needs.
He also reiterated Malaysia’s commitment to maintaining balanced relations with major global economies to advance trade and investment opportunities.
“Malaysia is a trading nation. We must expand our investment networks with the United States, China, India, and emerging regions like Africa and Latin America.
“This balanced approach allows us to strengthen our economy while remaining open and competitive,” Anwar said.
Earlier in his speech, Anwar stressed the importance of having a stable government with clear policies and an efficient executive.
“We must move beyond the old culture of complacency and ensure that our plans are carried out swiftly and decisively,” he said.
The IC Design Park 2, located at CoPlace 9, features an Advanced Chip Testing Centre and training facilities under the Advanced Semiconductor Malaysia Academy (Asem).
