CYBERJAYA, Nov 6 — The Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park 2 was launched today, an initiative that Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari described as a key milestone in Selangor’s mission to become the nation’s leading semiconductor hub and a main player in the global chip design ecosystem.
The development of the second park at CoPlace 9 will further strengthen Selangor’s role in the national semiconductor value chain.
“Since the success of the first IC Design Park, there is a growing interest among major semiconductor firms globally to set up operations here. However, the current space is quite limited.
“Hence, we are entering a new phase with the launch of IC Design Park 2, which will further reinforce Selangor’s position as Malaysia’s main semiconductor hub,” he said in his opening remarks during the launch.
Amirudin added that the first park in Puchong, which was launched last year, is now home to 14 semiconductor firms and over 200 engineers, with the figure expected to double to 400 soon.
“We believe we will become a key complement to Malaysia’s semiconductor industry, and among the main players globally within the next five years,” he said.

The IC Design Park 2 will house the Advanced Chip Testing Centre and advanced training facilities under the Advanced Semiconductor Malaysia Academy (Asem), offering state-of-the-art chip emulation, prototype development, validation testing, and advanced reliability testing.
“The chip testing centre is the only world-class facility of its kind in the region, equipped with the latest semiconductor technologies,” Amirudin said.
Among the global and local partners involved in the initiative are ARM, Synopsys, AWS, Keysight, Cadence, DF Automation, IIT Madras, and Shenzhen Xinhao Research Centre.
The Menteri Besar noted that the IC Design Park’s expansion aligns with the national strategy under the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030 to strengthen Malaysia’s semiconductor capabilities and global competitiveness.
Meanwhile, he said seven companies based in the first IC Design Park have emerged as key players in the ARM CSS and AFA Design Token initiatives, a crucial step in Malaysia’s effort to develop its first locally designed chip by 2028.
ARM CSS is a reference chip architecture from ARM that speeds up system-on-chip development, while AFA design tokens are reusable design values (like colours and spacing) that ensure consistent visual identity across digital products.
