KLANG, Nov 6 — The unique Chinese new villages in Selangor can be highlighted as tourism attractions in conjunction with Visit Selangor Year 2025 and Visit Malaysia Year 2026, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said these villages have their own historical value and district identities that can be promoted as heritage destinations and traditional cuisine spots.
He expressed confidence that these new villages can help Selangor achieve its target of drawing eight million tourists this year.
“One of the attractions we have is the new villages, which have preserved their traditions and managed to remain relevant amid modern development,” he said when officiating the Selangor Best New Village Awards 2025 here last night.
Also present was state executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim.
Amirudin said Selangor wants to continue to be known as a modern state that does not sideline the heritage, cultural values and history that shape its people’s identity.
“A good traditional village or new village must be one that is willing to interact and communicate with other communities. These are the values and characteristics that have contributed to Selangor’s success,” he said, while reminding all parties to reject racial extremism.
In the ceremony yesterday, Kampung Bagan Pulau Ketam bagged Best New Village Award, followed by Kampung Sekinchan Site C as runner-up and Kampung Baru Seri Setia, Sungai Way in third place.
Each winner took home cash prizes of RM3,000, RM2,000 and RM1,500, respectively, along with trophies and certificates.
