SINGAPORE, June 9 — The Second Selangor Plan (RS-2), which will be tabled soon, will highlight the development of rural areas like Hulu Selangor and Kuala Selangor, said Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the five-year agenda is aimed at not only driving economic growth, but also ensuring residents’ well-being and sustainable livelihoods.
“RS-2 will become the engine of the state’s economic growth while ensuring a more comfortable life for the people. After this, the focus will no longer be on areas such as Subang, Klang and Petaling Jaya.
“We will develop Hulu Selangor. Another automotive company from China will invest there, making the area more vibrant. Hulu Selangor already has UMW Aerospace Sdn Bhd and Perodua.
“Kuala Selangor is also a focus. We are developing the railway alignment. It has now reached Klang. Next, we will discuss linking southern Selangor to the (central area) to further enliven the state,” he told Media Selangor during a meet-and-greet with Malaysian High Commission in Singapore officers and Malaysian university students studying in the neighbouring republic.

Previously, Amirudin said RS-2, which will be tabled this month, was formulated with current challenges in mind, including geopolitical tensions, the energy crisis, and global economic uncertainties.
He said a more resilient and adaptive approach is needed to ensure Selangor remains competitive and sustainable over the next five years.
Among the strategies highlighted in RS-2 is a mission-oriented development model, an approach favoured by renowned economist Mariana Mazzucato.
Amirudin yesterday embarked on a three-day official visit to Singapore under the SR Nathan Fellowship, a high-level programme named after former republic president S.R. Nathan, that promotes the exchange of ideas and sharing of experiences between foreign officials and their Singaporean counterparts across various strategic sectors.
Yesterday, Singapore’s Foreign Ministry said the visit would provide Amirudin with the opportunity to meet several senior leaders of the republic, including Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Education Minister Desmond Lee, and National Development Minister Chee Hong Tat.
