SHAH ALAM, Dec 1 — Selangor continues to maintain its position as one of Malaysia’s most dynamic travel destinations, recording 6.3 million tourist arrivals as of September this year.
The figure is just 1.7 million short of its target to draw eight million tourist arrivals by year end.
In a statement, Tourism Selangor said the strong performance positions the state to take a leading role in Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026), supported by major upcoming events such as the 2026 Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Selangor, which is expected to boost the state’s sports tourism segment.
Tourism Selangor chief executive officer Chua Yee Ling said consistent campaigns and strategic collaborations have contributed significantly to the success of the Visit Selangor Year (VSY) 2025.
“Key initiatives such as ‘Surprising Selangor’ and ‘Selangor Kan Ada!’ were amplified through partnerships with well-known personalities including Aizat Amdan, Bunga Isme, Jasper Supayah, Tony Eusoff, Nazrief Nazri, Ghaz Abu Bakar, and others.
“There was also the vital contribution of media organisations in boosting Selangor’s tourism visibility. Platforms such as Media Selangor, Bernama, RTM, Media Mulia, Media Prima, The Star, The Sun, China Press, Sin Chew Daily, Oriental Daily, Gaya Travel, F8Buzz and others consistently featured Selangor’s events, attractions and community initiatives throughout the year,” Chua said.
Tourism Selangor said its strong performance was reinforced with the Visit Selangor Year 2025 (VSY2025) campaign, which recently won the Gold Award for Best Use of Content category at the Malaysia Public Relations Awards (MPRA).
“This achievement reflects the impact of the many initiatives and programmes carried out throughout the year. Selangor’s tourism calendar in 2025 featured a wide range of major events with 34 events managed by Tourism Selangor, including the Selangor Mega Food Festival, Selangor Travel Fair and Selangor Coffee Festival.
“The state also supported 39 organisations through the VSY2025 grant to enhance local tourism events and programmes, as well as 12 international and eight domestic sales missions to strengthen partnerships with travel agents and encourage the development of more tourism packages for Selangor,” it added.
Meanwhile, Tourism Selangor said its digital channels have seen robust growth, surpassing 800,000 followers with over 20 million engagements across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Xiaohongshu and YouTube.
