SHAH ALAM, Nov 5 — The state government continues to pursue the Selangor Agro Transformation Plan (PeTA) to empower the agriculture sector as a strategic food source and catalyst for agrotourism and local economies.

State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato’ Izham Hashim said the PeTA was launched to ensure the state’s competitiveness through the use of modern technology, innovation, and agropreneur development.

On Monday, he visited several high-impact agriculture projects in Hulu Selangor, including Kebun Kopi@Bernam Valley and Agropark Kalumpang, which focus on ginger cultivation and honeybee farming under Kohijrah Honey Farm’s purview.

“It was good to see our agropreneurs’ spirit, full of effort and new ideas.

“Every time I visit, I learn something new about the significance of farmers and breeders’ efforts in ensuring the people enjoy fresh produce from the land,” Izham wrote on Facebook.

He said his visit reflects the state government’s continuous efforts to fortify Selangor’s agriculture ecosystem through projects that don’t just add value to local products, but generate jobs and elevate local economies.

“From the cup of coffee we drink every morning to the honey in our kitchens, everything starts from their diligent hands.

“PeTA ensures these efforts are empowered through clear policies and systematic implementation,” Izham added.

Joining him on his visit were Hulu Selangor Municipal Council president Julaihah Jamaludin and Selangor Agriculture Department director Azahar Ibrahim.

Launched in 2022, PeTA is centred on five cores for Selangor’s food security — high-value crops, modern agriculture, complete supply chain, agropreneur development, and agrotourism.

The first phase of PeTA, focusing on high-value crops such as MeloSel, vanilla, and onions, is set to end this year to make way for the second stage, in line with the National Food Security Policy Action Plan 2021-2025.
