SHAH ALAM, Oct 5 — The Selangor Agro Transformation Plan (PeTA) 2.0 for 2026 to 2030 focuses on modernising the agro sector, increasing productivity, and strengthening the supply chain to enhance the state’s food security.
State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato' Izham Hashim said the focus will also be placed on the paddy sector, particularly efforts to increase productivity to ensure production remains resilient and capable of meeting the people’s food needs.
“Agriculture is no longer merely a traditional sector but a strategic sector closely linked to the economy, people’s incomes, and food security.
“The state government will continue to strengthen cooperation with the federal government, agencies, and industry players so that the agro sector can continue to grow and benefit the people,” he said in a Facebook post.
In December last year, Izham said that PeTA 2.0 will continue to be strengthened to empower the agriculture sector as a strategic food source, while also serving as a catalyst for agrotourism and the local economy.
The five-year plan is being implemented to make the state’s agriculture sector more competitive through modern technology, innovation, and agropreneur development.
Launched in 2022, PeTA focuses on five key pillars of the state’s food security: high-value agriculture, modern agriculture, a complete supply chain, agropreneur development, and agrotourism.
Its first phase, which focuses on high-value crops such as Selangor Melon (MeloSel), vanilla, and onions, is expected to be completed this year before moving on to the second phase, in line with the National Food Security Policy Action Plan 2021-2025.
