State launches MetaSel to drive innovation, digital transformation

SHAH ALAM, Oct 30 — The Selangor government today unveiled Metamorphosis Selangor (MetaSel), a strategic initiative designed to unify the state’s innovation and digitalisation efforts under one integrated platform.

Speaking at the Selangor Public Service Innovation Ceremony (MPIPANS), Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari called the effort the start of a new era of innovation and modernisation for Selangor’s public administration.

“MetaSel is established as a hub for innovation, technology, digitalisation, and administrative modernisation. It brings together Selangor’s innovation ecosystem under one integrated platform to strengthen the state’s competitiveness as Malaysia’s and the region’s leading innovation hub,” he said at the event, held at the State Secretariat Building here today.

Amirudin added that the initiative represents Selangor’s shift towards a smarter and more sustainable future, connecting the physical and digital worlds to create a strong innovation ecosystem.

“MetaSel represents a major transformation, a move beyond manual to digital transition towards comprehensive innovation anchored in AI, drone technology, and the Internet of Things,” he said.

The launch was held alongside the Selangor Innovation Awards and Public Service Innovation Awards, which saw over 300 entries from civil servants, private sector participants, schools, and higher learning institutions.

Earlier in his speech, Amirudin reminded public servants that innovation must become part of daily culture, not an option.

“Innovation doesn’t begin with tools; it begins with efforts to improve lives and with intelligent ideas combined together,” he said.

Amirudin also emphasised that innovation starts with solving everyday issues and adapting to an increasingly connected world, adding that innovation will be key to strengthening public service delivery and building a resilient, sustainable ecosystem in Selangor.

“We cannot be at odds in this situation … we must harness it for the benefit, prosperity, and well-being of the people,” he told reporters after the ceremony.

The MPIPANS is a continuation of the federal government’s efforts to foster a culture of innovation, featuring four main categories and four special awards.

The categories include Social Innovation (Creation), Social Innovation (Improvement), Service Delivery Innovation (Creation), and Service Delivery Innovation (Improvement), while the special awards include the Best Innovation Project (Primer), Best Innovation Project (Hybrid), Best Project Documentation, and Best Video Presentation.

Among the winners were the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) in the Social Innovation (Creation) category, won by Team EX7 with their project IRIS.

For the Social Innovation (Improvement) category, the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), represented by Team Green Troopers, took the top spot with their project “Establishing the PJ Eco Recycling Plaza as a Centre of Excellence for Environmental Sustainability through Community Partnership”.

The Service Delivery Innovation (Creation) category was won by Team C-Force from the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) for their project Smart C-Box, which addresses issues related to power supply disruptions.
