HULU LANGAT, Oct 18 — The Selangor government will continue its Rewang Komuniti Strata programme next year to build more harmonious and liveable communities within strata housing areas.

State executive councillor for housing Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said since taking on the housing portfolio in 2023, one of the new approaches he introduced was to strengthen community engagement through social activities such as gotong-royong (community clean-up) and rewang (communal cooking) events.

He said these efforts not only foster cooperation among residents but also serve as a bridge between the people and government agencies, enabling local issues to be addressed more closely through various initiatives such as exhibition booths and home visits.

“I will definitely continue the Rewang Komuniti Strata programme, as the Menteri Besar (Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari) has also assured me that there will be additional budget allocations to expand the programme to a greater scale involving all relevant agencies.

“This programme also includes 'ziarah kasih' visits, which we normally carry out together with the Social Welfare Department (JKM), zakat representatives and local leaders. We visit at least 10 homes to identify any overlooked issues or those in need of assistance.

“This is part of our effort to reach out to the community, and they appreciate it. We don’t want to just hand over homes and leave them on their own. We must also look into their community activities, facilities, and logistical needs for improvement."

He said this after officiating the Rewang Komuniti Strata programme at Pangsapuri Cempaka (Council Homes), Section 16, Bandar Baru Bangi, today.

During the event, 105 food baskets were distributed to residents in need, while the Perumahan dan Hartanah Selangor Sdn Bhd contributed RM10,000 for roof repairs at Surau Ar-Riduan.

In addition, a total of RM954,436.22 under the Selangor Strata Fund (DSS) was channelled by the state government to Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI to resolve strata ownership issues at the Desa Serdang Flat and Flora Taman Impian Ehsan Apartment.

More than 3,000 residents participated in today's event, which featured various activities including free health screenings, information counters by the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS), and a fire safety demonstration.

Various government agencies also set up exhibition booths, including the Selangor Malay Customs and Heritage Corporation (Padat), which offered free document conservation services and traditional games such as congkak and dam for visitors to try.

The programme continues tonight with a community dinner featuring dishes prepared by local residents.
