KUALA LANGAT, Sept 17 — The maintenance and upgrading of infrastructure and facilities in low-cost apartments across Selangor will be prioritised next year to improve residents’ living environment.
State executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said he hoped the 2027 Selangor Budget, to be tabled in November, would allocate additional funding for the Caring Government for Residence Improvement Aid (Ceria) scheme to expedite the maintenance works.
“With additional funding, we hope to maintain apartment buildings and repair or upgrade damaged facilities, especially in residences that are more than 20 years old.
“These buildings are showing signs of ageing. Drains, lifts and water tanks need to be repaired, while some buildings need to be repainted.
“Playgrounds also need to be repaired. How can residents carry out community activities if the facilities are not in good condition?” he said after officiating the Kuala Langat district-level Malaysia Day celebration and closing ceremony of the National Month.
He also hoped these efforts would receive support from the Housing and Local Government Ministry and relevant agencies.
Meanwhile, Borhan said the Rewang Komuniti Strata programme would be continued next year following its encouraging response and benefits to various groups, particularly residents.
“This serves as a platform to foster racial unity. The programme also strengthens ties between the administration and residents.”
Under this year’s budget, Selangor allocated RM2 million to continue programme, themed ‘Rewang Komuniti Ke Arah Kelestarian Komuniti Pangsapuri’.
The programme, which began in April, is being held at different apartment clusters with the participation of state and federal government agencies to closely examine the issues and needs of strata residents.
