Two students seriously hurt in Sijangkang storm — Exco

SHAH ALAM, Oct 16 — Two students sustained serious injuries in yesterday’s storm in Sijangkang, said state executive councillor for Islam and innovation Dr Fahmi Ngah.

He said one suffered an injury to the cornea and the other to the lungs, and both are in hospital.

“(Most of the) students sustained minor injuries. They have received treatment, with some requiring stitches, and have since returned home.

“Those with more serious conditions suffered injuries to the cornea and lungs,” he told reporters after officiating a seminar on shariah criminal law at the State Secretariat Building here today.

Yesterday, a storm wreaked havoc in Sijangkang, injuring several people and damaging multiple buildings, including four schools and the Sijangkang State Assembly coordination office.

A temporary relief centre (PPS) was opened at Dewan Harmoni in Kampung Sijangkang, with the incident classified a Level 1 disaster.

Fahmi said the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) will repair SRA Kampung Medan, one of the schools affected by the storm.

He added that Jais has contributed RM5,000 to the school’s parent-teacher association and RM500 to each of the 13 affected students.

“This morning, we sent Jais personnel to the site to conduct an assessment and estimate repair costs for the affected school blocks,” he said.

Fahmi explained that repairs would start next week, with classes to be conducted online for two weeks, except for Year 5 students, who are required to sit a Jais exam in the second week.
