SHAH ALAM, Oct 31 — The Selangor Public Works Department’s (JKR) repairs to SMK Sijangkang Jaya in Kuala Langat, which was damaged by a storm on October 15.
Selangor JKR director Shukri Ishak said the school’s life skills workshop, parking lot roof and pedestrian walkway are being repaired, with 30 per cent of overall work done.
“Repairs to the academic block roof have been completed including cleanup. Total physical progress is at 30 per cent, with completion expected by December,” he said when contacted by Media Selangor.
He said three more schools in the area are being repaired as well.
“Cleaning contractors have been appointed and they will start working soon. Contractor appointments to repair the roofs are in the final stages,” he said.
Last week, Shukri accompanied Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari on a visit to SMK Sijangkang Jaya.
In a briefing for Amirudin, Shukri said SK Sijangkang Jaya and SK Kampung Medan were critically damaged, while SK Jalan Tanjung and SMK Sijangkang Jaya were moderately damaged.
He said the estimated repair costs for SK Sijangkang Jaya is RM4.5 million, while SK Kampung Medan would need RM3.9 million. SMK Sijangkang Jaya and SK Jalan Tanjung need RM1.2 million and RM550,000, respectively, for a total of RM10.15 million.
Repairs to the four schools are set to be done within three months.
