KUALA LANGAT, Oct 15 — The Dewan Harmoni temporary evacuation centre (PPS) in Kampung Sijangkang has been opened to accommodate residents affected by a storm that struck this evening.

Kuala Langat district officer Tengku Rohana Tengku Nawawi said the incident has been classified as a Level One Disaster following reports of damage to several homes and premises.

“Dewan Harmoni has been opened as a PPS to ensure the safety and welfare of the victims. The centre will remain in operation for as long as necessary,” she said in a statement tonight.

Tengku Rohana, who also chairs the Kuala Langat District Disaster Management Committee, expressed hopes that all relief operations would proceed smoothly.

Earlier, the evening storm also caused the collapse of the Sijangkang State Constituency Coordinator’s Office building and a nearby Kelas Al-Quran dan Fardhu Ain (Kafa) surau, injuring a woman and nine students.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations division assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said they received an emergency call at 4.24pm, and a team from the Sri Andalas Fire and Rescue Station was immediately dispatched to the scene.

“Upon arrival at 4.43pm, it was found that a 20-by-40 square-foot office building, classified as a Class B structure, had collapsed,” he said in a statement.

Mukhlis added that firefighters carried out a rescue operation after finding a 51-year-old woman trapped under the rubble, though she remained conscious.

The office building collapse also affected the adjacent Kafa surau, measuring 50 by 60 square feet, which is classified as a Class A structure.
