KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 — The state government plans to organise a dedicated summit for the creative economy sector next year to discuss major issues and the industry's vast potential.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the summit is expected to be held during the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) next year.
“There are several areas we intend to explore further, including the creative economy's potential and advantages.
“Recently, the state executive councillor for entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi organised a creative economy seminar. If this ‘orange economy’ can be developed with a strong and structured system, we can make the creative economy one of the key components of SIBS in the future.
“This is because the creative economy has an extensive network and market value for the state of Selangor,” he said after officiating the Selangor International Care Summit (SICS) 2025 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) today.
Amirudin noted that Selangor is the first state in Malaysia to develop a comprehensive ecosystem network for the care economy.
“I believe that SICS' organisation, which features 54 exhibitors, will help us further strengthen the care economy ecosystem and social enterprises that generate higher economic value,” he said.
This year’s SIBS features over 700 exhibition booths for both local and international industry players.
The annual summit, organised since 2015, has introduced two new events this year: SICS and the Selangor Aerospace Summit (SAS), previously known as the Selangor Aviation Show.
Previously, state executive councillor for trade, investment, and mobility Ng Sze Han said the state government hopes that SIBS 2025's total transaction value will exceed the RM13.86 billion recorded last year.
However, Selangor still aims to achieve RM10 billion in total transactions over the four-day summit, with an expected attendance of 50,000 visitors.
