DENGKIL, Oct 6 — The state government is targeting about 4,000 houses to be provided under its Smart Rental Scheme initiative by 2028, said Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.

Currently, 1,000 houses are available for the scheme's implementation, and the number of houses is expected to increase through the 'Rumah Harapan’ and 'Rumah Idaman’ projects in Selangor.

"Each time these 'Rumah Harapan’ and 'Rumah Idaman’ are completed, it means that the state government will also receive these houses, which will be handed over (by developers), including in Lembah Subang.

"The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) are negotiating at the last minute, and we intend to resolve certain matters. (For example) in Lembah Subang, there are many blocks and additional (units), I think between 1,000 and 2,000 houses (for Smart Rental),” he said.

Amirudin was speaking to the press after the ceremony to present the Ampar Tenang People's Housing Project's offer letters to recipients today.

In his speech during the event, the Menteri Besar said the state government remains committed to expanding access to affordable homes to the public, particularly those in the low- and middle-income groups in Selangor.

"I know there are people who cannot afford to purchase homes, we will not force you to own homes or let you suffer (and that is why) there is Smart Rental,” he said.

Smart Rental is a scheme offering house rental to eligible low- and middle-income earners, with 30 per cent of the total rent paid used to pay the deposit for the purchase of Rumah Selangorku.
