SHAH ALAM, Oct 2 — Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah wedded Datin Paduka Seri Afzaa Fadini Abdul Aziz this morning in a ceremony that began with a 1.2km procession from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery to Istana Alam Shah.
His Highness rode to the palace’s Royal Mosque in a Rolls-Royce, where the solemnisation ceremony was held, marking his union with Afzaa.
Tengku Amir Shah, the only son of Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj and Puan Nur Lisa Idris Abdullah, was born on December 12, 1990, at Pacific Presbyterian Hospital in the United States.
He was proclaimed Raja Muda on May 3, 2002, at the age of 11, with the formal proclamation and swearing-in ceremony as the ninth Raja Muda of Selangor taking place in 2016 at Istana Alam Shah, Klang.
His Highness received his early education at Alice Smith School in Kuala Lumpur before continuing his secondary education at Wellington College in the United Kingdom, completing his A-Levels in 2009.
He pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of Leeds, obtaining a bachelor’s in ecology and environmental biology in 2014.
The same year, he began military training at the Army Training Academy in Port Dickson before continuing at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom, where he was commissioned as second lieutenant in the 17th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment in 2016.
In 2017, Tengku Amir Shah was awarded the Maroon Beret and Honorary Paratrooper Wings, qualifying him as a member of the country’s elite paratrooper team. He was promoted to captain in 2020.
Beyond his military career, the Raja Muda founded and serves as executive president of the Selangor Youth Community (SAY), an organisation established in 2017 to empower youth through personal development programmes, civic engagement and community resilience.
He also serves as Selangor Football Association president and Selangor FC chairman, Royal Selangor Yacht Club life commodore, and royal patron of several organisations including Cheshire Home Selangor, Yayasan Raja Muda Selangor, Invest Selangor Bhd, Children’s Protection Society, Water Air Food Awards, and the World Corporate Golf Challenge.
In higher education, Tengku Amir Shah was appointed pro-chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2018 and later as chancellor of Putra Business School in 2023.
In June this year, he was honoured as a transformational leadership fellow by the University of Oxford, reflecting his commitment to continuous learning and global leadership development.
Outside his official duties, His Highness enjoys physical challenges, having climbed Mount Kinabalu and Mount Kilimanjaro, and frequently participates in the Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta. He is also passionate about sailing, tennis, padel tennis and cycling.
Tengku Amir Shah regularly takes time to participate in community activities, embodying the qualities of a people-oriented leader committed to service and the state’s future.
