SHAH ALAM, Oct 1 — The Petaling Jaya City Council's (MBPJ) participation in the recent Malaysia Clean-Up Day has strengthened its commitment to environmental sustainability through strong support for the Selangor State Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Master Plan (PISPPANS).
Its Mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon said the involvement of 500 Petaling Jaya residents simultaneously reflected a spirit of togetherness in advancing the cleanliness and sustainability agenda.
“The Malaysia Clean-Up Day 2025 programme also set a Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) achievement by recording the largest gotong-royong (communal clean-up) with 100,817 participants, exceeding the initial target of 100,000 participants.
“A second MBOR record was also achieved with the collection of 27,679.31 kg of used cooking oil, while 6,462 tonnes of waste, including plastics, garden waste, wood, paper, and textiles, were successfully gathered,” he said in his message during the MBPJ Full Council Meeting yesterday.
Zahri added that the programme on Saturday (September 27) was in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) to make Selangor a sustainable, clean, and green state.
Previously, it was reported that MBPJ collected 1,176 kg of rubbish during the Petaling Jaya-level Malaysia Clean-Up Day at the Sungai Kayu Ara Retention Pond in Kampung Chempaka, to raise public awareness of cleanliness.
The rubbish collection programme was an initiative by the Housing and Local Government Ministry to mark World Clean-Up Day, celebrated annually on September 28.
