SHAH ALAM, Sept 30 — The Selangor Youth Convention aims to catalyse a mindset shift among youth towards leadership opportunities, and is tapped to produce a generation prepared to navigate the country’s future.
Petaling Jaya MP’s officer Nur Nazirah Abdullah said platforms in the form of dialogues and forums with thought leaders of various backgrounds gave youth space to understand current challenges from real perspectives.
“This convention gives youth new exposure and opens their minds to becoming future leaders. This initiative is a good step by the Selangor government to ensure youth can steer us towards a brighter future,” she told Media Selangor.

Universiti Utara Malaysia student Aliff Aiman Norazlan, 23, said the convention is a holistic medium as it emphasised leadership, entrepreneurship and sports, which are the backbone of youth development.
“The forum had a positive impact. Our minds were opened to current and future challenges. The reserve generation must be ready to drive the country,” he said.

The convention also recruited youth volunteers, who received a golden opportunity to gain real experience in organising a large event.
MAIWP Professional College student and convention volunteer Siti Nurul Ain Hiji, 19, said volunteering not only added to her experience, but widened her social network as she met many, many people.
“I’ve gained much from this convention. Leadership and volunteerism come hand in hand. All this shapes who we are for the future,” she said.

Universiti Malaysia Kelantan student Az Zahra Hafizahida, 21, said the convention piqued her interest in volunteering.
“Sukma (Malaysian Games) will be held in Selangor next year. It is an opportunity to volunteer. There must be lots for me to learn then.
“This is a chance I cannot miss. I’m most excited to watch the events in person because I could only watch them on television before,” she said.

The Selangor Youth Convention highlighted how youth aren’t just observers, but are ready to be the movers and pioneers of the future — so long as they are given trust and space.
The inaugural convention gathered over 500 university, college and secondary school students.
The event, themed “Planning a Generation, Shaping Civilisation”, was held at Dewna Raja Muda Musa here, and focused on various content including on entrepreneurship, leadership and sports.
