KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj granted an audience to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa and Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan at Istana Bukit Kayangan today.
Dr Zaliha said the audience was also attended by Khazanah Nasional Bhd, which presented the implementation plan for Warisan KL, particularly involving the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, which is very close to His Royal Highness' heart.
Meanwhile, in a separate session, the Ruler also received a briefing on current issues in Kampung Sungai Baru and the long-term development plans for Kampong Bharu.
“Tuanku said that he agreed and did not object to the development of Kampong Bharu as a whole, provided that the interests of the Malays are safeguarded,” she said in a social media post.
Last Thursday (September 18), Sultan Sharafuddin decreed that the redevelopment issue of Kampung Sungai Baru must be handled carefully and prudently, with priority given to the interests of the Malays.
His Royal Highness said there was no objection if the Kampong Bharu area, also known as Kampung Baru, was to be developed in line with the times, but the conditions must be clear and in favour of the Malays.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim welcomed the decree, saying it was in line with the Madani Government’s stance, which strongly emphasised the need to appreciate historical heritage while formulating fair and balanced development.
