GOMBAK, Sept 21 — Twelve ethnic associations under local councils have received RM60,000 from the state government to hold grassroots cultural activities.
State executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said the fund is to enable these groups to continue holding cultural events.
“It will also ensure cultural groups can hold programmes, buy musical equipment, traditional attire and exhibition materials, restore their galleries, and create digital materials to preserve their cultural heritages.
“Every association gets RM5,000, and I hope every sen given can be used for activities that are beneficial to continuously invigorate cultural arts in the state,” he said at the Selangor Cultural Arts and Heritage Event in Gombak yesterday, which was officiated by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

Borhan said the state government also means to expand the event to all districts from next year.
“This inaugural event in Gombak received a highly encouraging response from the people.
“I have suggested to the menteri besar that we consider more funding to expand this event to other districts,” Borhan said.
