SHAH ALAM, Sept 14 — State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi has become the latest politician to fall victim to a fake pornographic video manipulated using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
The Kota Anggerik state assemblyman said he received a threatening email two days ago from an unknown account, which displayed a screenshot of a video with his face superimposed, while also demanding a payment of US$100,000 (RM420,590) to prevent the video from being circulated.
“Such threats are a serious criminal act aimed at endangering my safety and tarnishing my reputation. I have lodged a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and will also be filing a police report for further investigation,” he told Media Selangor when contacted.
Najwan believes the threat follows the same modus operandi that befell Pandan MP Datuk Seri Mohd Rafizi Ramli, Subang Jaya MP Wong Chen, and Sungai Petani MP Mohammed Taufiq Johari over the past two weeks.
He also urged the public to remain vigilant against any form of online scam or extortion, as the spread of false and defamatory content not only damages individual reputations but also threatens societal harmony.
