SHAH ALAM, Sept 18 — State executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi has confirmed that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is investigating a fake pornographic video edited using artificial intelligence (AI) technology involving him.
He also lodged a police report at the Section 6 police station at 4.30pm today, during which a statement was also recorded.
“Previously, my staff member, who administers my email account, lodged a police report. However, MCMC required me personally to make a report to assist in reviewing and continuing the investigation.
“For now, I have not received any further threats, and my office has not contacted the email sender who sought to deceive and extort money through such means.
“I have also communicated with other elected representatives who received similar threats and found that the modus operandi and the email used were the same,” Najwan said during a press conference on the Malaysia Games (Sukma) Selangor 2026 today.
On Friday (September 12), he revealed that he had received a threatening email from an unknown account regarding a fake AI-generated pornographic video using his face.
The email demanded that he pay US$100,000 (RM419,604) to prevent the video from being circulated.
The councillor believes the threat used the same modus operandi as those targeting Pandan MP Datuk Seri Mohd Rafizi Ramli, Subang Jaya MP Wong Chen, and Sungai Petani MP Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari over the past two weeks.
As such, he urged the public to be vigilant against any form of online fraud or blackmail.
“The spread of false and slanderous content not only tarnishes an individual’s dignity but also threatens societal harmony,” Najwan said.
