SHAH ALAM, Aug 16 — Venues for the Selangor Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2026 will be decided soon, said state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi.
“The mascot flew to each district … representing venues for sports that will be contested,” he said at the Selangor Sukma 2026 mascot and theme song launch ceremony at Dewan Raja Muda Musa here last night.
“Nearly all venues have been finalised, and the latest event, e-sports, we will hold at the Melawati convention centre in Ampang,” he said.
Najwan added that the Selangor Sukma Secretariat will focus on recruiting 3,000 volunteers, especially youth, for the event.
“We have Team Selangor and Selangor Volunteers (SERVE), but we are also open to young people who are interested.
“They will participate in workshops or training on how to manage (the event), especially on protocols such as greeting guests as it involves a major championship. Volunteering is not empty, we want to give them additional knowledge,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Selangor contingent is targeting gold in men’s football and women’s futsal.
Selangor FC chief executive officer Johan Kamal Hamidon said intensive training began last year, with a two-year commitment to ensure state athletes’ best performance.
“As the team that will prepare the men’s and women’s football and futsal contingent, we at Selangor FC started planning and preparation, physical training, athlete recruitment, and talent refinement since last year.
"Kami sebagai pasukan yang akan mempersiapkan kontinjen bola sepak lelaki, wanita dan futsal, kita di Selangor FC sudah mulakan perancangan dan persiapan, latihan fizikal, pengambilan atlet baru serta mengasah bakat sejak tahun lepas.
“Sukma 2024 saw Selangor winning women’s football and men’s futsal. Next year, the state team as the host wants to maintain those victories and also win men’s football and women’s futsal,” Najwan said.
Meanwhile, the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) will look into upgrading facilities to ensure venues are fit for Sukma 2026.
MBSA community development department director Shahrin Ahmad said cleanliness, disability-friendly toilets, and air-conditioning are among the facilities given special attention.
“The Seksyen 19 hall is among venues to be used for volleyball and beach volleyball, and several other venues under the MBSA will be assessed for taekwondo, wushu, and football.
“We will ensure whatever the state asks for or requests will be coordinated well to ensure the success of the Sukma,” he said.
The white eagle is once again mascot of the Selangor Sukma, which is scheduled for August 15 to 24 next year, while the theme is “Rentak Kita, Aksi Kita (Our Beat, Our Move)”.
