SHAH ALAM, Aug 16 — Three hundred Malaysian Games (SUKMA) Selangor 2026 volunteers were given the honour of participating in the opening ceremony parade at Dataran Kemerdekaan here last night.

The invitation aimed to recognise and express gratitude for their contributions in making the prestigious sporting event a success.

SUKMA 2026 Volunteers’ Subcommittee chairman Syamsul Tahrin Mohd Tahir said the invitation to join the parade symbolises the state’s gratitude for volunteers, who are among the main drivers of the entire event.

“Overall, around 1,000 volunteers worked to make the opening ceremony a success, besides ensuring the event was festive and orderly.

“They were involved in various tasks including crowd management, ensuring cleanliness and safety, and supporting the festivities,” he told Media Selangor.

He added that the invitation for the 300-volunteer contingent in the parade marked the state’s gratitude for the entire team serving diligently during the entire tournament.

Their involvement not only helps the event go smoothly, but reflects the spirit of volunteering among Selangoreans to make the nation’s largest sporting event a success, he said.

Syamsul added that volunteers also ensure competitions and various programmes throughout SUKMA go smoothly, thus providing athletes, officials and spectators with the best experience.
