SUBANG JAYA, Aug 2 — A total of 206 buyers of Rumah Selangorku Residensi Jaya have received a refund of RM4.2 million in principal payments after the housing project was cancelled by the developer.

State executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said the project could not proceed due to the developer’s failure and was declared abandoned by the Housing and Local Government Ministry in 2022.

“Today marks a historic day and a major success for the state government, as we are able to return buyers’ deposits ranging from RM2,100 to RM25,500.

“It took us less than a year to resolve this issue. Today, we officially returned their deposits, and most of them have already purchased new homes.

"For those who haven’t, we are ready to assist them,” he told reporters after officiating the refund handover ceremony in Seri Kembangan today.

Also present were Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS) deputy executive director Mohd Hafiz Hassan and Seri Kembangan assemblywoman Wong Siew Ki.

The Residensi Jaya project in Cheras received planning approval in 2016 and was slated to offer 388 apartment units priced between RM200,000 and RM250,000 each.

Meanwhile, one of the recipients, Mohd Helmi Hamid, 43, expressed his gratitude for receiving a refund of RM25,500 that he had paid to the developer in 2018.

“Today is a meaningful day for us, as we finally received our deposits back. We are grateful that the state government stepped in to help. This feels like a godsend after six years of waiting,” said the civil servant.
