SHAH ALAM, March 26 — The groundbreaking for the Selangor Aero Park (SAP) is set to be held in June or July, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the development of the park, on a 200-acre site, will make Selangor a regional and global aerospace hub.
Selangor is the main driver of Malaysia’s aerospace industry, with 68 per cent of sectoral activities such as manufacturing and services pursued in the state, he added.
“Services such as airports; maintenance, repair and overhaul; and manufacturing are already done in Selangor, and we want to grow those figures.
“This will be done via several plans, including technical and vocational education and training programmes that will create jobs that pay up to RM8,000 through a training system arranged by Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI,” he said.
Amirudin was speaking on the Dialog TVS: Menuju Selangor 2030, Apa Strategi MB aired last night.
Previously, he said Selangor will sign a memorandum of understanding with Khazanah Nasional Bhd and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd to develop the SAP.
Set to be signed this month, the deal, among others, aims to grow the aerospace industry as a continuous effort to drive the state economy.
The aerospace industry is among the focuses of the Speed Selangor Policy, announced by Amirudin in the 2025 Selangor State Budget.
The state also formulated the Selangor Aerospace Action Plan 2020-2030, a 10-year strategy to realise aerospace development and drive the aerospace industrialisation hub.
