SHAH ALAM, June 24 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has revealed that several companies have expressed strong interest in setting up operations at the newly launched Selangor Aero Park (SAP).
He said this is a good indication that the state is on track to capture at least 70 per cent of Malaysia’s aerospace economic activity by 2030.
Presently, Selangor accounts for 68 per cent of the country’s aerospace output, with the SAP tipped to improve the figure.
“... Four or five companies have already contacted me expressing interest to explore opportunities there,” he said at a press conference after the grand opening of Aircraft Propeller Service’s (APS) maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility here today.
At the SAP groundbreaking ceremony on June 5, Amirudin said the park’s will draw more interest from global giants, from aircraft manufacturers to companies across the supply chain, to relocate to Selangor.
He said Selangor’s existing partnerships in the MRO services sector could also be a jumping-off point for it to embark on new relationships with companies involved in aircraft engine and engine parts.

At today’s grand opening, Amirudin said APS’ decision to establish its Asia-Pacific base in Selangor is a significant endorsement of the state’s aerospace ecosystem and ambitions.
He added that APS’ presence is a strong signal of Selangor’s competitiveness in the aerospace sector.
“Today, I’m glad APS is joining the party, with a more niche focus in the maintenance of aircraft propellers used by turboprops like ATR, Embraer and even Airbus,” he said in a speech.
Amirudin noted that APS’ local workforce has undergone extensive training in Brazil and the United States; a reflection of the company’s long-term commitment to Selangor.
“Your decision to choose Selangor as your third operating base after Brazil and the US is testament not only to our strategic location, but to growing confidence in our skilled workforce, transparent regulatory processes, and our role as a gateway to Asean,” he said.
Amirudin added that global demand for turboprop aircraft, driven by rising short-haul travel in regions like Southeast Asia, Africa, and South America, will continue growing, with rising fuel costs forcing airlines to prioritise cost efficiency and innovation.
“As airlines and operators look to optimise operational costs with the threat of rising oil prices looming, companies have no choice but to double down on research and development, and there is no better place in Southeast Asia to do that than Selangor.
“As outlined in the First Selangor Plan, the state government earmarked the aerospace sector as one of five main growth areas,” the menteri besar said.
