SHAH ALAM, Feb 28 — The Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) has allocated RM6 million to manage old and overgrown trees next month.
Mayor Dato’ Abd Hamid Hussain said the council will also appoint an arborist to identify trees that post a danger to humans, especially if their roots have started to rot.
“We will have to make decisions on whether certain trees — although healthy — may pose a risk due to their height, especially in bad weather. Once we do, we will start the work of trimming them down,” he said after the council’s monthly meeting today.
”We need to appoint a contractor for this. Our estimate is that work can start next month and may take three to four months to complete.”
On the case of a man who was crushed by a fallen tree in Kampung Bukit Kuda here on Monday, Hamid said the victim’s next-of-kin will receive compensation, although the amount has not been decided.
”If the total amount offered by the insurance company isn’t satisfactory for the man’s family, they can file a case with the court to request for more.
“But if the victim’s family accepts what the insurance company offers, then we consider all to be well and can let the matter come to a close,” he said.
In the 6pm incident on Monday, Aszehari Ansar, 46, died after the vehicle he was driving was crushed by a tree at Jalan Batu 3, Kampung Bukit Kuda, Klang.
His 13-year old daughter, Nur Asyifa, 13, who was in the backseat, escaped unharmed.
