SHAH ALAM, Nov 22 — The 211km Kita Selangor Rail Line from Sabak Bernam to Negeri Sembilan through Sepang will include passenger and cargo services.
State executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han said Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) is responsible for identifying a cargo route that starts in Negeri Sembilan to West Port and Port Klang.
“Recommendations have been included in the study to support the industrial sector in Selangor and increase the interconnectivity of land ports to back long-term domestic use and international trade.
“This initiative … will also provide better public transport in a more comprehensive manner. A study is ongoing to ensure viable development of the project.
“A more efficient cargo rail service will develop the logistics sector and support federal efforts to move the cargo system from roads to rail,” he said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly session here today while winding up the Supply Bill 2025.
He said the study covers all aspects including construction, operation, maintenance, and land procurement, set to be completed in January.
“The study also looks into the empowerment and connectivity of the cargo system, which is pioneered by KTMB, in addition to the East Coast Rail Line set to be completed in 2027,” he said.
Previously, the state government announced a viability study for the Kita Selangor Rail Line on the west coast, with an allocation of RM3 million.
The rail line involves a connection from Klang to Kuala Selangor, Tanjong Karang and Sabak Bernam, with a potential Kuang-Kuala Selangor line.
