KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 — The Selangor Platform (PLATS) Entrepreneur Development Training Programme (U-PLATS) has successfully empowered traders through a structured and effective series of training stages.

The initiative features four core modules: U-PLATS Digital, U-PLATS Halal, PLATS Biaya, and U-PLATS Expand.

Selangor Youth Community (SAY) chief executive officer Aiman Syafiq Nazri said that around 800 traders have been trained under the U-PLATS Digital module since 2023, significantly enhancing their competitiveness in the digital economy and modern entrepreneurship.

“PLATS is a directory that gathers traders across Selangor. As a continuation of this directory, U-PLATS Digital was introduced as an entrepreneurial training programme focusing on business digitalisation.

“This includes digitalising business operations, strengthening social media presence, and adopting cashless payment methods like QR codes — all of which improve business efficiency and competitiveness. So far, the first and second series have been completed, with the third scheduled for September,” he said.

Aiman was speaking to Media Selangor after the sharing session 'Selangor: Empowering Local Entrepreneurs', in conjunction with the One District One Industry (SDSI) national-level showcase 2025 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec) yesterday.

Meanwhile, Halal International Selangor (HIS) chief executive officer Khushairi Lasar said that 10 entrepreneurs trained under U-PLATS Halal successfully obtained halal certification within approximately one month of mentoring.

“We conducted training and halal advocacy for PLATS entrepreneurs who were ready to apply for halal certification. In the first series, we worked with 10 traders, and within a month, eight of them successfully obtained certification.

“For the second series, which is expected to start in September or October, we aim to involve a larger group of around 200 participants. We are also finalising the Certificate Readiness Assessment (CRA) system, which will help entrepreneurs perform self-assessments to determine their readiness for halal certification,” he said.

Similarly, Yayasan Hijrah Selangor's chief business officer Nilammasri Jaafar said the PLATS Biaya programme, managed by her organisation, has provided financing to 132 PLATS traders with loans of up to RM3,000, totalling nearly RM400,000 so far.

“This financing is interest-free, and repayment is expected within 12 months. Payment records have been positive, indicating that traders have successfully improved their business performance,” she said.

In 2023, Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI launched the U-PLATS programme to support entrepreneurs in managing their businesses digitally, with the involvement of 12 local authorities.

The training modules include topics such as an introduction to entrepreneurship, social media, and e-commerce, as well as digital content creation.
