SHAH ALAM, Aug 10 — The state government is implementing various initiatives to empower the aerospace industry, thereby realising the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) and the Selangor Aerospace Action Plan.

State executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said that aircraft engine maintenance and repair training courses are among the efforts to attract youths and develop a workforce to meet the sector's job market demands.

Organising the Selangor Aviation Show (SAS), which involves key industry players, also aims to provide the best exposure to the aerospace field for youths.

“The job market potential in this field is not only focused on graduates with a Bachelor's degree but also on young people with qualifications in Technical and Vocational Education and Training, information technology, and artificial intelligence.

“Next week, Universiti Teknologi Mara's Shah Alam campus will organise the ‘Democratising AI’ programme, which will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. It will also provide a good opportunity for youths to understand the aerospace field,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Previously, state executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han expressed his optimism that the Selangor Aerospace Action Plan 2020-2030 would drive the development of Selangor's aerospace industry, thereby making it a major industrial hub in Southeast Asia.

Meanwhile, SAS, which was first held in 2021, serves as a platform for the state government to encourage the aerospace sector's growth and to assist local companies as well as small and medium enterprises in exploring the field.

Most recently, it has offered an aircraft engine maintenance and repair training programme specifically for Selangor's residents, starting this October, along with an allowance payment.

Managed by Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI and GE Engine Services Malaysia Sdn Bhd (GE Malaysia), this 12-month pilot programme is open for applications until August 31.

In addition to receiving mentoring support from relevant experts, participants will also be exposed to the aerospace industry, undergo industrial training, and have career opportunities with GE Malaysia.
