BANDAR HILIR, Nov 15 — The ban on physical campaigning during the Melaka state election period has not hindered the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Selangor machinery, said its chairman.

Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the party’s machinery is moving as usual but with less expenditure and will be able to maintain its professionalism until polling day.

“This is the first time candidates are not allowed to do as many face-to-face interactions as before. Perhaps this will encourage us to collect more data and use it to get a bigger voter countin the next election,” he said.

Amirudin said this after spending more than 40 minutes visiting Jonker Walk yesterday.

He also suggested that PH candidates continue to use creative approaches to woo voters.

“I encourage candidates to use social media as a communication tool between friends but not necessarily in Melaka only.

“We are worried about voters who are outside Melaka and candidates will have to do something about it in these remaining days,” he said.

The Selangor Menteri Besar and Selangor Parti Keadilan Rakyat chairman also said he plans to visit the state again before polling day on November 20.

“I want to strengthen the machinery that has camped (in Melaka) for more than two weeks, before nomination day,” he said.

During his tour of Melaka, Amirudin visited the constituencies of Sungai Rambai, Rim, Asahan, Machap Jaya, Rembia and Ayer Molek.

He also meet up with the voters of Tanjung Bidara, Sungai Udang, Lendu, Paya Rumput, Kelebang and Kota Laksamana.

The Election Commission (EC) has set the Melaka voting day on November 20 and early voting on November 16.

It follows the dissolution of the state assembly on October 4 after four state assemblymen withdrew support for the chief minister.

Melaka, which has 28 state seats, has a total of 495,195 registered voters.
